Chef Philly Phill’s journey started young. At the age of 4, he was already in the kitchen helping his grandmother cook (image to the left) already fascinated by the magic of food.
From his Puerto Rican side of the family, he inherited soulful deep flavors like sofrito, picadillo, and pernil. From his mother, a professional baker, he learned the art of precision, creativity, and care.
Raised alongside three sisters, Chef Phill grew up surrounded by strong women who taught him resilience, warmth, and the joy of feeding others. Every member of his family — whether through tradition, technique, or love of gathering around the table — left an imprint on his cooking.
Empanada Papi brings all those influences together: golden empanadas filled with Puerto Rican soul and a fusion of flavors that reflect Phill’s diverse background and chef’s imagination. Each bite is a piece of his story, crafted to share with community. Empanada Papi is about more than just empanadas.
